Spring, summer, autumn and winter are often spoken about as immutable facts of nature. Just like the 24-hour clock and the Roman calendar, the four seasons are colonial imports, rigid measures of time forced on a constantly changing landscape—a place experienced and interpreted very differently by this land’s First Peoples.
SEASONS in Blak Box takes you into an award-winning sound pavilion designed by architect Kevin O’Brien, where you’re invited to engage in deep listening—a First Peoples concept that acknowledges silence and in-between spaces, as much as the stories which contain them.
Aided by subtly shifting light and music, Aboriginal broadcaster and journalist Daniel Browning curates the stories, language and anecdotes from six First Peoples women artists and elders—N'arweet Dr Carolyn Briggs AM, Isobel Morphy-Walsh, Aunty Joy Murphy AO, Justice Nelson, Fay Stewart-Muir and Mandy Nicholson. Through scientific examinations of biological wonders and poetic interpretations of a ceaselessly changing world, you’ll connect with Country from a First Peoples perspective.
