Stars by Water

Snaking down the Birrarung (Yarra river) is Wandering Stars—our glowing lantern installation charting the eel’s mysterious life-cycle and its significance to this land’s First Peoples. And the best place to take it in is on the river itself.

Board a Melbourne Water Taxi from Southbank, Berth 4, for a 20-minute return tour of the installation. The boat takes you along the work’s southern flank, past the giant spirit eel’s vertebrae, and the lunar cycle’s phases entwined with elvers (young eels); you’ll also hear the work’s soundtrack travelling across the water.
