PLAYLIST: FAR FROM THE MADDENING CROWD
Crowds are a sea of emotion and experience; individuals making up a collective consciousness. This eclectic playlist embraces the movement, chaos and exultation that coalesces when people come together in unison.
In August 2020, Melbourne was heading into its second pandemic lockdown. We felt it was a time to remember the power of crowds and what it means when they’re absent. We wanted to remember beach throngs of sun-bronzed bodies, the thrashing front row of rock concerts, the ruffle of club kids’ costumed plumage at parties, and the bellow of thousands at sporting events.
In this playlist from RISING’s music team, you’ll find football chant funk and World Cup anthems, from the Barmy Army and New Order; frantic electro-dub from Vanessa Worm, whose track ‘Satisfaction’ moves with the swirling ebb and flow of the dance floor; and stirring cinematic grandeur from Ennio Morricone.
